Translation Blog

Happy blogday!

November 11, 2004

This blog is one year old today. I started it for purely professional reasons, to offer something different to potential clients and to stand out from all the other translators' websites out there. I never thought that it would actually become a full-blown hobby and that I would enjoy writing it so much.

I've learnt a lot and I have greatly benefited from it, from a personal as well as professional point of view. It prompts me to stop and think about my job and what I'm doing, it pushes me to learn about topics I might not have researched, and the comments from readers often give rise to stimulating exchanges.

Feedback from so many different people also makes me feel connected to other human beings who are interested in similar things, which is crucial to me, as I often wish I didn't have to work on my own. So I'd like to thank you all for reading this blog, contributing to it and making a lonely French translator feel a little less isolated!

Happy First Blogday, Celine! I trust you'll be having a suitably infantile and riotous celebration.
Your blog has brought me so much since I learned about it a few months ago from a mention in The Linguist magazine. As a translator from French and Spanish into English (at present alongside a fulltime job, but planning to take the plunge and try to do translating and editing full time very soon) I'm interested in all the linguistic and professional issues you raise, and love reading your views and experiences, many of which I identify with.
Yours was also the first blog I ever enjoyed reading and came back to almost daily. I quickly realised how much I enjoyed this and started looking hard and persistently amongst all the badly written dross for well-written blogs focusing on other areas that interest me (writing, politics, buddhism, herbs...). I'm now an avid and regular reader of, and commenter in, some half dozen very varied blogs from different countries, really excited by this and thinking that when I go freelance and have a bit more time (as I no doubt will initially!) I want to start my own blog.
So you started something for me that is now a valued part of my life.
Thanks and warmest best wishes!

Bonne Anniversaire! I'm so happy to have found your blog - you're so encouraging, and who knows, maybe in a few years I'll be following in your footsteps (not to England, but in translation... aw heck, you know what I mean;) )!

Well, I missed the day itself (I've been having both life and computer problems), but happy anniversary anyway! You're an inspiration to me as I begin the quest for self-employment.
