Comme une image

November 15, 2004

For those of you who love French cinema (and just cinema!), do not miss Comme une image (English title: Look at me). It's an excellent social satire, with brilliant dialogues and performances. As an aside, I think the title is taken from the expression sage comme une image, which in English would translate as as good as gold.

Yes! I just saw this too, and loved it. Made me laugh out loud many times, whilst also wincing - people behaving very badly, but also evoking sympathy. And I didn't recognise the derivation of the title, so thanks for that - it's a particularly poignant and interesting title in view of how I just chose to sum up the film!

I just loved how well the characters well drawn in all their complexities - no stereotypes, just people and their contradictions. Brilliant.

I find the English title better than the original French: look at me! Not at my father, not at my body, but at ME!!!
