Dooced
January 12, 2005
This article in today's Guardian about a man who lost his job for criticising his employer in his blog reminded me that I had read about a new word for this phenomenon. So I checked Urban Dictionary, and there it was: dooced, to lose your job because of your blog. It comes from www.dooce.com, whose owner was, apparently, the first person to ever know this fate.
There isn't an equivalent in French, maybe because it's too early, or maybe because this situation hasn't happened in the French-speaking world, I'm not sure. I don't feel as brave as yesterday, so I won't give it a go…
Check out this list of "blogophobic" companies and this list of people who lost their job because of their blog (via boing boing and Apophenia).
