I'll never be allowed to join this fine nation! I only got 9 right answers to this citizenship test, although I'm proud I gave the right answer to the following question (and it only goes to prove that I’m right in thinking that time spent in the pub is time well spent – otherwise, how would I have known the answer?):
Question 8
Life in the UK explains what to do if you spill someone's pint in the pub (we're not making this up). What, according to the book, usually happens next?
A: You would offer to buy the person another pint
B: You would offer to dry their wet shirt with your own
C: You may need to prepare for a fight in the car park
I only got 10, and a couple of those were only luck! Of course, I haven't read the guide. But presumably the guide is supposed to be stuff all British people know...
Posted by Jean on June 16, 2005 4:08 PMWell, I was born in the UK and have lived here all my life (18 years in Scotland, 8 in England, 13 in Wales) and I only got 9 right too. I bet lots of people over 30 got the dog licence one wrong unless they've owned a dog.

surely in most pubs B. is only an option for one half of the population? Or maybe only men are clumsy enough to spill other people's pints? :-)

Admittedly, N°5 was a shot in the dark. And I'd have had N°8 right if I hadn't been confounded by the implied answer in the formulation of N°9.
