New category: products I like

June 8, 2005

Like a lot of freelancers, I sometimes fret over the future and whether I’ll carry on being able to make a living from translating and interpreting or whether C3PO-type multilingual androids will be replacing me in the near future. I’ve thought of whether I could use this website to generate a separate stream of income; I tried Google adsense, some of you may remember, but I just didn’t feel comfortable with advertising random products and companies, so I took them down after a few days.

In the same vein, I regularly receive emails from people wanting me to advertise their products on this site. I’ve never taken any of these offers up because they’ve generally been irrelevant to what this site is about or I just didn’t particularly like them. This has changed, however.

Last week I received one such offer and was actually impressed by what they were trying to sell. I thought this could interest some readers while helping me towards the cost of this site, so I decided to start a new category, called "products I like". I will write a review explaining why I think they’re good, and if you click on the link/ad provided and purchase something, I will get a commission. As this website is visited mainly by language and translation lovers, I will only advertise products linked to those subjects. I have no idea how many products I’ll include in this category, it might just be the one, it all depends on the quality of what I’m sent. This is, like Google adsense was, an experiment. We’ll see how it goes.

Translator's tools

Comments

I hope it's not going to be Cialis. ;-)
I am looking forward to see what this amazing product is like.. and any other products that come along your way in the future. Besides, are you limiting this to products that you are offered or just about anything that you happen to find?

I wouldn't say that particular product is AMAZING, but I do think it's very good. I think for now, I'll be limiting it to stuff I'm offered, but who knows, if it works out within the site, I might look to expand it. In fact, there's another cool tool I've come across, and they explain on their website how to add code to your site if you want to advertise it and get a commission... more later...

I suppose Cialis could be relevant to translators, it's a anti-depressant, isn't it? :-)

Not exactly, though I'm sure erectile dysfuction could lead to depression... ;)
