This is one of a handful of Basque words I know, it means thank you. I was born in Bayonne and although I’m not strictly speaking Basque (most of my family are from the Landes region, just north of Bayonne), I’ve always loved the Basque country, its incredible landscape, its songs, its gastronomy and its sports.

Today I’m sure a lot of people are thankful that ETA has announced a permanent ceasefire and hopeful that the peace process can move forward to a positive outcome.
