How to organise your emails - update

June 29, 2007

Remember the very brilliant system to organise email that I mentioned just under a year ago? There was a tiny problem with it: although it meant that I managed my inbox much more efficiently, my "Action" folder has kept growing and actually contains items that are several months old. Well, Gina has struck again and explains how to solve this problem by separating your email from your to-do list.
I *heart* Gina.

Hi Céline

That's an interesting system, but personally I prefer to separate my folders by client. I have to refer to old emails often, and it just seems too confusing to have my interpreting jobs mixed up with localization jobs and personal stuff.

As for action items, my motto is "new mail received: answer it immediately or answer it never at all".

I don't feel the need to have a folder per client because I use gmail, which has a fantastic search options. Ruthless motto, I like it!
