This morning I learnt a new word: calving. Nothing to do with cows, all with glaciers giving birth to icebergs. I generally don’t like the very overused word “awesome”, but this video is… awesome. I can’t wait to see Chasing Ice.

    “Calving” really is a nice word. I heard it first in the Norwegian Glacier Museum in Jostedalsbreen,two years ago, together with the Norwegian/Icelandic “jökulhlaup”, which – as far as I know – remains untranslated (but I remember a discussion on a Russian translation forum about proper Cyrillic transliteration of this word). Great video!

    Totally freaky. I swear I’ve seen that somewhere before in a science fiction film or something, but this is for real.
